Freudian Slip?
During his prolonged rant last night, Al Sharpton referred to Barack Obama as "Obama Baracka." Now I can't prove this, but I think he had gotten the name confused with that of Amiri Baraka, the consummate bard of ressentiment. It's a further illustration of the difference between Obama and Sharpton, between a black politician who wants to be an American leader and takes politics seriously, and a self-appointed black "activist" who doesn't understand the difference between politics and self-promotion (or truth and falsehood, for that matter).

Dan, I realize that I'm commeting on a very old post, but I take issue with your criticism of Al Sharpton. Al Sharpton received more votes in the 04 primaries in the South than Howard Dean, and he also speaks for the black community in a way that Barack Obama can't and won't ever pretend to speak for them--that said, Obama, whom I've met a few times now, is a wonderful person and he will probably eventually even develop some backbone in the Senate. Sharpton is far more subversive, however, and I can see why you may not give him credit for being anything.
But then again, you're white.
