Quote of the Day II
"The constitutional amendment we are debating today strikes me as antithetical in every way to the core philosophy of Republicans," said Senator John McCain, Republican of Arizona. "It usurps from the states a fundamental authority they have always possessed, and imposes a federal remedy for a problem that most states do not believe confronts them."
He is referring to a proposal President Bush believes (or claims to believe) is vital to the wellness of the republic. Yet the McCain wing of the party is getting all the prime-time spots at the convention. So the poll question: using the convention to pretend that the Francoists aren't in control of the Republican Party is a) more OR b) less disingenuous than the multi-ethnic parade at a 90% white convention in 2000.
