We Didn't Hold Elections During WWII, Right?

So why should we hold elections during the war on terror? I mean, if there are terrorists out there, and we hold elections, then our elections will be unduly influenced by the terrorists, so then the terrorists win, right? I also think we might have to avoid holding elections until such time as John Kerry isn't ahead in the polls.
