Proving Me Right
"The separation of church and state is not in our Constitution and not in the First Amendment."
--Presbyterian Minister Rev. D. James Paterson, Ph.D, on the O'Reilly Factor 12/16/04
What was the statement Gene Vilensky wanted me to cite before he would reconsider his position?

Isn't the statement of the Rev. Paterson obviously true? The Constitution doesn't say anything about "separation of church and state."
The phrase "separation of church and state" comes from one of Jefferson's letters, where he explained, "why he would not proclaim national days of fasting and thanksiving, as had been done by Washington and Adams before him."

The Separation of Church and State is a function of maintaining the First Amendment. Some can squawk about the fact that it is not literal but the separation of church and state has helped to keep inter-religious strife at minimum in this country.
The idea that some would want to take down the "wall" is not only imprudent but a threat to the religious freedoms all Americans enjoy.
As far as I am concern if the good reverend is seeking to remove of seriously weaken the separation of church and state he is an threat to my freedom and he is seeking to make the U.S. a Prostetant Theocracy.
