May Day is the pinko party day here in Sweden, and the main university square was the sight of a "class vs. class" demonstration with posters featuring a most bewildering by-line: (roughly translated)
"This summer, work only for what you're paid and don't life a finger more! Remember, summer jobs last only a few months, job injuries can last a lifetime."
It makes me ill...I mean, yes, but that's the wrong message in so many ways....in response, I quote my grandfather, who was fond of saying: (roughly tranlsated)
"If you never work for more than your pay, then you'll never get paid for more than your work."
...But what really did it for me was the phrase "Embrace Maoism" newly scrawled across a 400 year old facade in red spraypaint. That's just such a beautiful way of sticking it to the old system, I think we can all agree.
One small step for spray paint merchant, one giant leap forward for confused political youth.
