Thankfully, though, there don't appear to be casualties? Remind me again about how this all could have been avoided by leaving the Taliban in power.

That wasn't the point, but go ahead and make idiotic and unfounded connections to your heart's content. Why don't you join the ranks of the neoconservatives if you're so enamoured with the purifying qualities of war? The brighter ones rise to the top faster around there (because there are so few of them).
