Death Of Irony Watch
Andrew Sullivan picked a doozy for his quote of the day:
"And then you have a blithering idiot like Lou Dobbs, in my view, who's using the platform of CNN in ... the frame of a news show. This is not news. And so we have a political class not making sense of the world for people and that's why the public ... is so agitated," - Tom Friedman, at Yale [Law School]Now, to be sure, only someone in denial would deny that Lou Dobbs is a fat xenophobic oilslick whose metaphysical thisness has the essential property of being a hazard on the road of meaningful cultural and intellectual progress. All the same, did Tom Friedman say something about "a political class not making sense of the world." You mean, like this?

Friedman is a moron. Right on Finnegan.
I'm so glad you caught this. I was thinking of making noise over it but that seemed too effortful. However, it should be pointed out that the public is, in fact, also "a fat xenophobic oilslick whose metaphysical thisness [...] is to be a hazard on the road of meaningful cultural and intellectual progress". Which makes Friedman's obliviousness all the worse.
Even if you disagree with Friedman, it's a stretch to compare him to Dobbs
Indeed, I don't think Friedman is a fat xenophobic oilslick, though to his credit, he's got one hell of a child molestor's mustache. And he's precisely the sort of negative cultural vector whose massive confusions and equivocations in international studies enter popular consciousness with the effect of overall marginal losses in public information and informedness
He may not be a fat xenophobic oilslick, but he is an inane cocksucker if ever I've seen one.
Thanks for writing this.
