How Not To Write About Pat Tillman

Apropos of these comments from yesterday, I'd call your attention to this odious screed by Rene Gonzalez, published in the UMass Daily Collegian shortly after Tillman's death. As if to prove his credentials as someone who will gladly piss on the grave of the freshly buried dead, Gonzalez calls his column [I think he's a he--ed.] "Pat Tillman is not a hero: He got what was coming to him." It only gets worse from there. How much worse? Gonzalez argues, presumably with a straight face, that the Taliban was authentically Afghan and that it therefore follows, even though it doesn't actually follow, that theirs was the right and legitimate side during the US invasion of Afghanistan.
