What If We Had A New Republic Contributor Who Believed In Science?
Note my paraphrase of the most underreported line in John Kerry's speech. Anyway, click here for a fisking of a silly Gregg Easterbrook article which ridicules Stephen Hawking, modern quantum physics, and Big Bang theory for "not passing the common-sense test." One of the funnier things about Easterbrook's article is how it resembles a lot of Aynrandian complaints about modern physics.
With Rand, the fundamental laws of the universe were defined by "reason," a metaphysical stuff possessed mainly by Rand and her inner circle---and also by Aristotle, after Rand the second greatest thinker in all of human history. Anything that contradicted Rand's "reason" (you can imagine what the priests of "Objectivism" thought and think about relativistic physics) is false and morally reprobate, QED.
While the Randians might have been pimping pseudo-science for a religion of their own devising, Easterbrook is determined to pimp pseudo-science for the Holy Roman and Catholic Church. You tell me which is worse.
