Theocracy
I first saw this on Digby, but it may have been picked up elsewhere first. Anyway, Senator Richard Shelby (R-AL) has authored a bill (S. 520), co-sponsored by four senators (Brownback, Burr, Craig, and Lott) that would make it a crime to...well, just read this:
Constitution Restoration Act of 2005 - Amends the Federal judicial code to prohibit the U.S. Supreme Court and the Federal district courts from exercising jurisdiction over any matter in which relief is sought against an entity of Federal, State, or local government or an officer or agent of such government concerning that entity's, officer's, or agent's acknowledgment of God as the sovereign source of law, liberty, or government [emphasis mine].To be honest, I'm not entirely sure what this means. It looks like the idea is to nullify the jurisdiction of federal courts in any matter in which a government entity claims to have derived its authority from God. This does mark the first time in years in which I've really felt like singing the Internationale.
