Stop Hurting America
My latest YDN column is posted here. In it I try to elaborate on the charges Jon Stewart leveled at Tucker Carlson and Paul Begala a couple of weeks ago.
I actually had no idea that the column would be appearing today, and since I was away at Foxwoods over the weekend, I had no chance to come in and edit it. Lucky for me, the editor(s) who worked on it changed very little. In fact, I can't think of an instance when I was more pleased with the results of an editor's handiwork than is the case with this column. The only bone I have to pick is that in the original draft, I referred to "the gulf between external reality and Bush supporters' perception of it." The line was amended to exclude the word "external," which seemed to me to be doing work and was not just a superfluous modifier. Even so, the point was adequately made that one is either a Bush supporter or a member of the reality-based community, but not both.
My next column will be an evisceration of this subliterate op-ed by Mike Slater. [Which one? They're all subliterate.--ed.] [The one defending Bush's messianic psychopathy--F.] I'm not going to start work on it since the outcome/non-outcome of the election is likely to affect what I want to say, and the column couldn't appear earlier than next Monday according to the YDN's ground rules.
